Care of Mouth following extraction

-
Closely watch your child until the anesthesia wears off. Local anesthesia may last as long as 3 hours. Do not allow your child to bite, suck or rub the lips, face or tongue while they feel numb.
-
Avoid sucking through straw, spitting and carbonated beverages for 48 hours.
-
Bleeding can be controlled following an extraction by maintaining gauze pad firmly over the extraction site for 20 minutes following extractions. Please have your child bite, not chew on gauze.
-
Pain can usually be prevented by taking Motrin or Advil every 6 hours as needed.
-
Your child may be more comfortable eating cool, soft foods for up to 24 hours.
-
Your child should avoid excessive physical exertion.
